The breakout star of Ryan Murphy’s revisionist drama on working with her idols and how her expectations of the industry stack up

By Crystal Bell Laura Harrier never dreamed of becoming an actor; it was more of an abstract fascination. Growing up, she put on plays and skits for her neighbors, eventually funneling that flair for exhibitionism into a successful teen modeling career. When after high school she moved from the Chicago suburbs to New York City she was accepted to New York University but never attended, deciding instead to pursue modeling full-time she thought she had her future figured out. But that's the funny thing about dreams: Sometimes you don't take them seriously until a tangible opportunity arises. After a few small-budget student films and a regular role on One Life to Live, Harrier felt the creative pull of Hollywood. It took years of supporting indie roles and abandoned pilots until she lande...

She welcomes Lady Gaga to her ‘family of fairies’

Ever since Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande dropped their shimmering, dance-floor single "Rain on Me" on Friday (May 22), the praises have rushed in like a torrential downpour, both from fans and from the pop icons themselves. The collaboration, which served as the second single off Gaga's forthcoming album Chromatica releasing on Friday (May 29), has been met with overwhelming support, apparently leaving the singers feeling rather humbled. On Tuesday (May 26), Gaga asked Ari in a tweet: "Are most of our streaming numbers just us being crazy and obsessed listening on repeat?" To which Grande posited a likely answer. "i think so. or just @ joangrande alone," she responded, directing the conversation to her mother, Joan Grande. Responding to her daughter's message on Twitter, Joan Grande sweetl...

Premier League’s top six liable to have to pay back broadcasters more than €30m each

A group of clubs, led by Liverpool, will argue against paying a £330 million (384m) rebate to Sky and other broadcasters at a meeting to discuss the matter on Thursday, despite the Premier Leagues recommendation that it should be accepted. The finance directors of all 20 clubs were informed on Wednesday of the sum by the Premier League, whose head of broadcasting, Paul Molnar, is leading negotiations. Sky is the prime broadcaster with rights to show 128 live matches a season, followed by BT Sport with 52, and Amazon with 20. Because of the rights terms, 50 per cent of money is divided equally with 25 per cent awarded for live appearances and the other 25 per cent dependent on league finishing position. This means the top six Premier League clubs will have to pay more back around £30m (34...

The unit was sold to Savant Systems with no terms disclosed.

General Electric (NYSE: GE) agreed to sell its lighting business to Savant Systems, a Hyannis, Mass.-based smart home management company backed by KKR. Why it matters: This cuts GE's last product ties to Thomas Edison. No terms were disclosed, but the WSJ puts the price tag at around $250 million (including assumed liabilities). That's only half of what GE hoped to get when it first decided to divest in 2017.The bottom line: GE is no longer in the consumer products business, although Savant plans to maintain the GE bulb branding via a long-term licensing agreement. True, we have not even elected him president yet, but isn’t it already time to start dismantling Joe Biden’s presidential library?

ANALYSIS/OPINION: True, we have not even elected him president yet, but isn’t it already time to start dismantling Joe Biden’s presidential library? After all, he has a long history of supporting white supremacists and just being an all-around racially insensitive, privileged white geezer. To be fair, Mr. Biden did not invent the Democratic Party or its racism. But for nearly 50 years he has knowingly and willingly associated himself with and supported the causes of the Democratic Party, known throughout history for its association with white supremacy. Just this week, The New York Times “celebrated” Memorial Day the only way they know how. They wrote an editorial denigrating the U.S. military and disparaging a bunch of military figures who have been highly revered throughout history f...

Pregnant people have make an in-person visit to pick up the pill — even if they’ve already seen a provider about getting an abortion.

As the coronavirus pandemic ground almost every U.S. industry to a standstill, the Trump administration urged healthcare professionals to use telemedicine to see patients remotely and stem the spread of COVID-19. But the administration didn't really extend that advice to one big group: abortion providers. Abortion rights advocates are trying to change that. On Wednesday, the American Civil Liberties Union sued the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services, accusing the agencies of jeopardizing public safety by refusing to let doctors dispense abortion-inducing drugs remotely in the middle of a deadly pandemic. In a medication abortion, people take doses of two drugs several hours apart. The first drug, mifepristone, has long been regulated by whats ...
