A wave of bad loans that could overwhelm lenders when government rescue packages end

European banks say they are doing just fine during the coronavirus pandemic. But regulators and bank executives are concerned about the elephant in the room: a wave of bad loans that could overwhelm lenders when government rescue packages end. The economies of Europe plunged this year, and fresh lockdowns in many countries are weighing on nascent recoveries. Yet the unprecedented levels of government and financial-sector support, including repayment moratoriums sometimes covering a quarter of all outstanding loans, have kept...

The PlayStation 5 was going to be even bigger, but Sony engineers told the designer to shrink it down a bit. Yujin Morisawa reveals all the details in an interview with the Washington Post.

At nearly 16 inches tall and more than 10 inches wide, the PlayStation 5 is a very large video game console. Sizable, some might say. Beefy. But, would you believe it was almost even bigger? Love or hate the design, the PS5s notable chonk is undeniable. According to designer Yujin Morisawa, in an interview published Monday by the Washington Post, the original drawings depicted an even more colossal device. I knew it was going to be larger because I know how much power there was going to be, he said, so I knew how much air flow you would need and how much space for a heat sink. In the beginning, when I started drawing, it was much larger even though I didnt know what engineering was going to do. Its kind of funny that engineering actually told me its too big. So, I actually had to shrink ...

“President Trump is 100% within his rights to look into allegations of irregularities and weigh his legal options,” the Senate Majority Leader said.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Monday declined to acknowledge President-elect Joe Biden's victory and backed President Donald Trump's refusal to concede the 2020 election, saying that the president had "every right to look into allegations and request recounts." As the Kentucky Republican, who was recently reelected to a seventh term, celebrated the electoral wins of Senate Republicans, he would not refute Trump's position. "Obviously, no states have yet certified their election results," McConnell said. "We have at least one or two states that are already on track for a recount and I believe the president may have legal challenges underway in at least five states." He added: "President Trump is 100% within his rights to look into allegations of irregularities and weigh his l...

Immigrants say watching Alex Trebek on “Jeopardy!” helped them learn English.

Fans of "Jeopardy!" all over the world mourned the death of longtime host Alex Trebek on Sunday, but one group shared a particularly special connection. Immigrant families in the U.S. say watching Trebek, who was 80 and had hosted the quiz show for 37 years, each night helped them learn English. Asmae Toumi arrived in the U.S. from Morocco when she was 9, not knowing a word of English, and she said watching American TV shows was a big part of learning the language. She credited "Clifford the Big Red Dog" for some of her progress, but she also spoke about the impact of game shows like "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!" Etherify - bringing the ether back to ethernet (c) 2020 Jacek Lipkowski SQ5BPF sq5bpf@lipkowski.org Main page here: https://lipkowski.com/etherify Demo: https://youtu.be/ueC4SLPrtNg These are attempts to transmit via leakage from ethernet. ################################################################ etherify1.sh - sends data wirelessly by changing the speed of an ethernet interface. Usage: ./etherify1.sh If is given, then the contents are sent, else "etherify 1 demo" is sent. This works by switching between 10Mbps and 100Mbps, which results in a change of the electromagnetic radiation that leaks from the devices. Switching to 100Mbps produces a signal at 125MHz, which is used to transmit morse code. Tested on 2 raspberry pi 4 running Raspbian 10 connected together via ...

M.A. Taylor thinks it is more important than ever that Americans understand just what kind of financial arrangements Joe Biden’s family has with China and its communist government.

If Joseph R. Biden is headed to the White House, M.A. Taylor thinks it is more important than ever that Americans understand just what kind of financial arrangements his family has with China and its communist government. His film “Riding The Dragon: The Biden Chinese Secrets” has racked up more than 2 million online views, but that’s just the start, he said. “The documentary has a completely new relevance than it had before,” he said. “The film has a new mission going forward.” “Riding the Dragon” debuted two months before the presidential election. Its curtain rose weeks before a laptop thought to belong to Mr. Biden’s son Hunter surfaced with emails and documents outlining his many business deals abroad. Most alarming, Biden detractors say, are the emails detailing Hunter Biden’s de...
