Experts in child psychology explain how parents can begin conversations about racial violence and answer some of kids’ most painful questions.

Friends and family of George Floyd express how they want him to be remembered. USA TODAY Should we tell the children? How? Those are among the many questions parents are asking after the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor. These deaths are part of a more complex story, one some parents have been telling for generations, and others have long felt they've had the luxury to ignore. Experts in child psychology and race-based stress say these conversations are essential for all parents to have, and they underscore that there are developmentally appropriate ways to talk to children of all ages about racism and police brutal...

A recent meta-analysis provides the best evidence to date that physical distancing and the use of masks and eye protection slows COVID-19 transmission.

The sudden, rapid emergence and spread of SARS-CoV-2 has left researchers searching for a safe, effective vaccine to reduce the transmission. However, the development of a vaccine may be 12–18 months away, if indeed such a vaccine can ever be found. In the absence of a vaccine or other treatments that would slow the spread of the virus, public health organizations have recommended a series of social and behavioral changes to reduce the transmission. In addition to frequent handwashing, authorities have emphasized the importance of physical distancing: leaving the house less frequently and maintaining as much distance as possible from others at all times while outside. Pregnant people have make an in-person visit to pick up the pill — even if they’ve already seen a provider about getting an abortion.

As the coronavirus pandemic ground almost every U.S. industry to a standstill, the Trump administration urged healthcare professionals to use telemedicine to see patients remotely and stem the spread of COVID-19. On Wednesday, the American Civil Liberties Union sued the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services, accusing the agencies of jeopardizing public safety by refusing to let doctors dispense abortion-inducing drugs remotely in the middle of a deadly pandemic. In a medication abortion, people take doses of two drugs several hours apart. The first drug, mifepristone, has long been regulated by whats ...
