The Nintendo Switch is such a delightful console not just because of the magical games that come to it but also because of its portability, which lets you take all of those games with you anywhere. But, that portability also leads to one of the Nintendo Switch’s problems: battery life. Even with the latest iteration of the Nintendo Switch improving the battery life over the first model, you can still find yourself running out of juice if you’re playing a lot away from the charger. But, all it takes is a Switch battery case to save yourself from a lot of that battery anxiety.Switch battery cases can give you a substantial extension to your playtime away from power outlets. Some even strap themselves right onto the switch itself, giving you a complete solution that won’t add considerable bulk to the Switch but will add considerable runtime. We’ve selected a range of batteries for the Nintendo Switch, giving you plenty of options to find which will work best for you. See the larger capacity models for longer playtime or the low-profile cases for a discreet upgrade that won’t get you tangled up in charging cables.TL;DR These are the Best Nintendo Switch Battery Cases:
1. ZeroLemon Extended Charging Case
Best Nintendo Switch Battery Case
ZeroLemon’s battery pack for the Switch includes a 10,000mAh battery that the company claims will add a righteous 10 hours of runtime to your Switch. Other handy features include a kickstand, MicroUSB port, USB-C port, and a card slot with enough room for three game cartridges. The only potential downside to the ZeroLemon case is its size. Compared to similar battery packs, this particular case is a bit bulky, but that’s par for the course for such a massive battery.2. Nyko Power Pak
Best Slim Nintendo Switch Battery Case
The Nyko Power Pak is both slim and lightweight, so it’s perfect for a plane or road trip. The two-part case sports a mid-sized 5,000mAh pack, which should be able to double the battery life of your Switch. Two lock sliders hold the pack’s top and bottom pieces together, preventing accidental bumps from dislodging the battery pack. A USB-C cable is included in the box to let you charge the Power Pak, and four indicator lights let you check its charge level at a glance. Overall it’s a slim battery that doesn’t add much weight to your Switch, nor does it take too big of a chunk out of your wallet.3. HyperX ChargePlay Clutch
Best Mid-Size Nintendo Switch Battery Case
The HyperX ChargePlay Clutch charging case for the Nintendo Switch prolongs the battery life of your portable console by adding a 6,000mAh battery for an extra five hours of potential play. But, that’s not all it does. The case slides around the whole Switch, including around the controllers. This adds a bit more girth to the Joy-Cons, which may offer a more comfortable hold for bigger hands. The grips that go onto the Joy-Cons are even detachable, so you can slide them off with the Joy-Cons to form a standalone controller while you play with the Switch on a table.4. Bionik Power Commuter
Best Nintendo Switch Carrying Case With a Battery
If you don’t like putting a case on your Nintendo Switch or any of your devices, a carrying case might be your best bet. Luckily for you, the Bionik Power Commuter is just that and it includes a 10,000mAh battery pack to save you the trouble of having to buy a carrying case and portable charger separately. It’s pretty nice as a case on its own as it features a large interior for you to a second set of Joycons, other Nintendo Switch accessories, and your whole game card library with you. Another plus is you can carry this battery case in three different ways with the built-in handle, optional shoulder strap, and flap loop.
5. Anker PowerCore 10000 PD
Best Nintendo Switch Power Bank
Anker is well-known in the power bank world, and its first Switch-approved charger looks pretty awesome. Unlike most stand-alone power banks, the Anker PowerCore 10000 PD lets you charge the Switch while you’re using it, which sets it apart from most power banks, and makes it a lot more useful too. This charger is good for recharging your Switch 1.7 times, according to Anker, which should equal about 10 hours of playtime total. Plus, if your Switch is topped-off but your phone is on fumes, it also has fast-charge capability for phones as well.
6. Marval Power GuliKit Battery Master
Best Attachable Battery
Marval Power’s GuliKit Battery Master is a simple yet effective solution to extend your Nintendo Switch’s battery life. It rather plainly straps a battery pack onto the rear of your handheld console. The battery offers up 10,000mAh for plenty of extra juice, and it can pump out 15W of power, keeping your Switch topped up even when it’s running demanding games. The battery has a built-in USB-C cable that makes it easy to plug into your Switch without any cable management or needing to remember a cable in the first place. There’s also a USB-A and USB-C port, so you can charge up a phone or other device without needing to unplug your Switch.
What to Look For in a Switch Battery Case
There are a couple things to keep in mind before pulling the trigger on a battery case for your Switch. First, the original Switchs internal battery is 4,310mAh and typically lasts about three hours when undocked (depending on the game). The new Switch lasts a bit longer between four to five hours in our experience, though Nintendo has yet to reveal the exact capacity of the larger battery. Most of the packs I found are around 10,000mAh, so nearly all of them promise to double the life of your Switch, but that won’t always be the case.
There are a lot of factors that go into the efficiency of an external battery pack, so dont be disappointed if that 10,000mAh battery doesnt triple your Switchs battery life. With that said, all of them will still provide quite a boost.
